There was an old man in a town. His facial expression was very deformed due to cancer in his mouth part. He had a daughter. The daughter had five children, and her husband was in bed unable to do any work due to a fracture in his spine. So the old man was on the verge of having to live for his daughter.
That old man went to Baltimore Hopkins hospital for treatment for cancer. It was evening when the treatment got over. His place of residence was very far. So he wandered in many places to stay the night. But no one, who saw his face ,came forward to offer him a place to stay the night. Finally he went to a house that was opposite to the hospital. The owner of the house half-heartedly allowed him to stay the night. The old man said to the landlord, “I need only one chair, and I will lie down in it and leave early in the morning”. But the owner of that house was pity on him and gave a corner place in his children’s room. The children of that house treated him very kindly.
Early morning, he got ready to go to his city. To the landlord who came to send him, he asked, “Your children loved me so much. A kind request, would you please give me a place to stay overnight like this the next time I come for treatment? “ The owner of the house agreed. The next time he came for treatment, the old man gave him a costly big fish and vegetables from the garden as a gift. Like this, their relationship grown.
The owner of the house went to his friend’s house one day. There, he saw a beautiful flower blossomed in a dirty flower pot.Immediately he realized that we should not weigh anyone by their appearance. He was ashamed to think that he was reluctant to accept that good old man to home by seeing his appearance.
The lily blossomed in the thorns, the lotus blossomed in the mud. Beautiful flower blossomed in the dirty flower pot. Likewise, we should not decide on seeing the outer appearance of a man.
“for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”(I Samuel 16:7)
